PENTAX Corporation is pleased to announce that the PENTAX K10D lens-interchangeable digital SLR camera, first launched in the European market in November 2006, was selected as the “ EISA European Camera of the Year 2007-2008 ” by the prestigious European Imaging & Sound Association (EISA).

Besides, its dust and water-resistant construction makes the K10D suitable to use for almost all conditions.

The PENTAX K10D has already been selected as the Best D-SLR Expert in Europe 2007 by Technical Image Press Association (TIPA) and the Camera Grand Prix 2007 by Camera Journal Press Club (CJPC) in Japan. By winning the EISA European Camera of the Year 2007-2008, K10D wins all three major awards in Europe and Japan.

The PENTAX K10D D-SLR Camera Wins "Camera Grand Prix 2007" in Japan

PENTAX Corporation is pleased to announce that the PENTAX K10D lens-interchangeable digital SLR camera, first launched in November 2006, was selected as the winner of the Camera Grand Prix 2007 award in Japan. The selection was made because of the K10D’s exceptional image quality and array of advanced features, including the PENTAX-original Shake Reduction system.

The Camera Grand Prix is held annually under the sponsorship of the Camera Journal Press Club (CJPC), a group of photography writers from Japan’s 11 leading photo and camera magazines. This is one of the most prestigious camera awards in Japan, as it recognizes what the group sees as the most distinguished of all new still cameras introduced to the Japanese market from April 1 to March 31. The winner is decided by a 49-member selection panel, which includes the editors and publishers of club-member magazines, photographic experts, technical writers, and professional photographers, as well as CJPC members. This year, the PENTAX K10D prevailed over 158 other new products introduced to the market from April 1, 2006, to March 31, 2007, to win the award.

Reasons for Selection of the PENTAX K10D

The panel concluded that, in addition to high-precision, high-resolution images assured by 10.2 effective megapixels, the K10D harmonizes an array of advanced, sophisticated features — such as the PENTAX-original SR (Shake Reduction) mechanism, compatible with all existing PENTAX interchangeable lenses; the newly developed DR (Dust Removal) mechanism assuring spotless images; a dependable dust-proof, water-resistant construction; and a choice of original, user-friendly shooting modes — with a reasonable pricing that makes it affordable to many users. The panel particularly praised its compatibility with existing lenses: “By assuring compatibility with a wide selection of existing lenses, the K10D extends tremendous versatility and unique benefits to its users, and makes digital photography more fun and exciting from the photographer’s point of view. In all, the K10D must be seen as a complete and remarkable camera system.”

Founded in 1984, the Camera Grand Prix celebrates the 24th Grand Prix winner this year. In the past, PENTAX produced two winners: the PENTAX Z-1 Quartz Date (1992), and the PENTAX 645N (1998). he K10D now joins them as PENTAX’s third winner of this prestigious award. The PENTAX K10D has already been selected as the Best D-SLR Expert in Europe 2007 by the prestigious Technical Image Press Association (TIPA). By winning these two highly coveted awards in Japan and Europe, the K10D’s outstanding performance and technological excellence has been clearly demonstrated to the world.
